Beautiful Dangerous Synopsis

Beautiful_Dangerous_Book_Cover_Final

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Get over my break-up by having a one-night stand with a rock ‘n’ roll hottie and move on with my life. Going on tour as official photographer to the world’s number one band was not part of the plan.

Have you ever dreamed of being plucked out of the crowd by one of the hottest rock stars in the world? I didn’t even know who Ozstryker were when my reckless sister Beth dragged me along to their concert. I went solely to keep her out of trouble, not for me to get tangled up with the famous guitarist renowned for his magnificent shirtless torso and talented fast hands.

I had no intention of becoming a groupie, let alone anything else. But when Jax Ozstryker invited me on a date, I decided it was time for a little fun. Not that the night ended how I had planned – or how he planned, for that matter – I got a job and he didn’t get laid.

So now I’m on tour with the biggest band in the world with my crazy, unpredictable sister for company and a beautiful dangerous attraction for my new boss. I never dreamed life could be so crazy. Or complicated.

But this is life on the road – where nothing makes sense and everything is possible.

BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS by Penny Dee – due for release 25 February 2015

Beautiful Dangerous – Update & Teaser

Beautiful_Dangerous_Book_Cover_Final

I’m bad. I know. And I am sorry. Lately, I haven’t been updating this site or social media as much as I should. I know. And it’s not because I don’t want to, I do, really. But I have been working up a sweat trying to get the first draft of BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS completed and to my beta readers … and man, there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the damn day!

While the first draft still isn’t finished, I am close. SO CLOSE. I can see the finish line and I know it is going to be worth all the early mornings and late finishes once I am done. And while I am desperate to get it finished, it’s also going to be a little bit bittersweet for me. Why? Because I might just have a teeny crush on Jax Ozstryker, the male lead in BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS, because he is so cool and sweet, and he loves Layla so big it makes you go all warm and gooey inside. It’s also kinda cool hanging out with him and Layla so much, I never know what is going to happen when I sit down to write them. *sighs*  I’m really going to miss those guys when they are gone!

Hopefully the first draft will be done in the next week or two, and then its off to the betas and proofreader and then BAM! Look out world!

So I promise you here and now, as soon as I know anything—anything—you guys will be the first to know! But until then, here is the first teaser for BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS. Think of it as a bribe from me to you, to say sorry for being so slack at updates and navigating around social media.

I really can’t wait to get this out there for you guys all to enjoy xx

BLURB

And just because it is cover reveal day and I am feeling all happy and sunshiny, here is an UNEDITED sneak peak at BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS!

Chapter Two

I woke up with a start and bolted upright.

The memory of vodka thudded against my temple and it took me a moment to work out I was still on the luxurious leather couch with Jax Ozstryker.

“Oh my god, what time is it?”

“Almost seven,” the gorgeous guitar god replied sleepily.

“Oh no. I can’t believe I fell asleep. I have to open the shop and start the breakfast shift in half an hour,” I moaned huskily.

“Can you call in sick?” he asked.

In five years I had never called in sick. I didn’t do sick. Letting Laverne down wasn’t in my nature.

I began to rush, frantically trying to get myself organized, but was completely distracted by a very handsome Jax who watched me from the lounge with a lazy smile on his lips. I couldn’t believe I had fallen asleep. On him. I mean literally, with my face buried in his crotch. Heat rushed at my cheeks. I didn’t have time to deal with this. I had to get to work and get Beth home, and …oh hell.

I stopped collecting my things and swung around to look at Jax. “Beth ?”

He nodded towards the hallway where the bedrooms were. “I don’t think she’s ready to go home yet.”

My brain rapidly recalled the moments before I fell asleep. Jimmy and my sister were getting very friendly. Lip-lock friendly. I had no doubt where they were and what they were up to. I rolled my eyes. How on earth was I going to get her home?

As if reading my mind Jax said, “I’ll make sure she gets home.”

I couldn’t help but smile at him. “Thank you.”

I excused myself and raced to the bathroom. While I peed I did my best to fix my appearance in the ludicrously ginormous mirrors which made peeing almost impossible without the onset of stage fright.

Despite spending the night asleep on a rock stars lap my appearance had held up quite well. After peeing, I splashed cold water on my face to help wake me up and piled my long hair up in a bun and secured it with a knot.

Thankfully there was complementary toothpaste on the basin, which I squeezed onto my forefinger and gave my teeth a quick scrub. Rinsing and spitting, I splashed complementary cologne under my arms and gave my reflection a quick once over. It would have to do. Luckily Laverne kept a few spare uniforms at the ice-creamery so I would be able to change when I got there.

When I left the bathroom Jax was waiting for me, leaning up against the wall near the front door, looking fifty shades of gorgeous. Keys jangled in his fingers.

“What are those?” I asked.

He pushed himself off the wall. “Gambits keys. I’m dropping you at work.”

Gambits keys belonged to a motorbike. We rode the elevator down to the hotel basement where the Harley waited in VIP parking. Jax guided me onto the back of the bike, secured my arms around his solid waist and with a loud rumble of Harley Davidson engineering, we took off into the fresh Seattle morning.

* * * * *

He dropped me out the front of The Fudge & Ice-Creamery with ten minutes to spare. I was relieved. It would give me time to change into a spare uniform and make some attempt on my hair.

“Thanks for the lift.” I squinted in the mild Seattle sun. “And for the lap to sleep on last night.”

He grinned and I felt a sudden regret that this was goodbye. Tomorrow he would be gone and if he remembered me at all, it would be as his most disappointing one night stand, ever.

“The pleasure was all mine.” His smile was closed-lipped. “It was really good to meet you, Layla.”

Without thinking I leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. “See you ‘round, Jax Ozstryker.”

Without another word I turned and headed into the shop. The roar of the motorbike disappearing down the street signalled the end of my crazy night and after slipping into a uniform and fixing my appearance, I messaged Beth.

Don’t come home pregnant.

Ginger, the other server at The Fudge & Ice-Creamery, arrived ten minutes later, and as soon as I opened the doors at 7.30 we were busy. We served warm waffles, pancakes and some of the best tasting coffee in the state. It made us a popular choice for a place to drop in for breakfast. Later, when the cinemas next door started, we would be rushed off our feet for coffee, ice-cream and something from our delectable fudge menu.

By the time my break rolled around a few hours later, I was exhausted. I took my mug of black coffee and sat in the mid-morning sunshine. Laverne had a timber barbeque table set up out the back so we could sit in the shade of a cedar  tree during our breaks. I slid onto the timber bench, and hungrily sipped at my coffee as I checked my phone.

Beth had text me.

Home. Safe and sound. Boy what a night. Can’t wait to fill you in. Call me as soon as you get this.

Then another.

Can’t believe this. Jimmy rang. We are going out tonight.

And another.

Why haven’t you rung me?

And another.

If you love me, you will ring me

Obviously she didn’t have much to do today.

I am officially not talking to you now

Because her attention had turned to texting me.

I am one text away from disowning you as my sister!

Obsessively so.

Layla?

Apart from my crazy sister’s text messages, I also had three missed calls on my cell but didn’t recognize the number and the caller had left nothing on my voicemail.

Because someone obviously needed to get hold of me, I rang it back.

Straightaway, I recognized the sweet male voice that answered. But for a moment I was too surprised to speak. Then realizing my silence made me look like a creepy prank caller I found my voice.

“Hey.” I couldn’t help but grin. “How did you get my number? Are you a psychic? Or just a really good guesser?”

“Just tenacious.”

“I bet.”

“I talked your sister into giving it to me.”

“Really?”

“Okay, so I might’ve black mailed her a little bit. Told her I’d give her a ride home on Gambits bike if she gave me her sisters phone number. Seemed like a fair trade. Your sister likes motorbikes.”

“Nice that she pimped herself out like that on my behalf.”

“She gave in a little too easy if you ask me. Secretly I think she’s hoping you’ll agree to go out with me.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t think so.”

“Ok, maybe I’m the one that’s hoping.”

I laughed again. In fact my grin was so wide it hurt my cheeks. I knew he’d be smiling that beautiful half-smile and just the memory of it made my tummy do stupid things. Like flip and roll. The thought of Jax Ozstryker did something to me. Either that, or I was hungry.

I was just about to say something when the back door to the ice-cream opened and Ginger filled the doorway. She was grinning like a Chestshire cat, her pink uniform straining across her massive set of boobs.

“Um, Layla. You’re gonna have to come in here,” she called out.

The shop had obviously gotten busy. Being right next to the cinemas meant we often got a sudden rush of customers whenever a movie finished.

“I’ve gotta go. My breaks over,” I told Jax, although I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed.

“You’ve always gotta go. I’m starting to get a complex,” he said, his voice light-hearted on the other end of the phone. “What about tonight? It’s my first night off in ages. Come out with me.”

I grinned. My heart thundered. Of course I wanted to see him again. I just didn’t know if it was wise. Something told me Jax Ozstryker was a walking heartache all wrapped up in one impressive package.

“I don’t know –”

“Don’t think about it. Just say yes.”

As I followed Ginger into the shop I became aware of the commotion coming from inside. It was coming from the direction of the front counter. It sounded like a busload of high school cheerleaders had just landed in our ice-cream shop.

“What the…?” I mouthed to Ginger, aware I still had Jax on the other end of the phone.

“You’ll see…” She laughed and stepped aside so I could pass her.

The ice-cream shop looked like it was under siege by excited teenagers. And women, grown women. Laverne was at the cash register. When she turned to face me, her usually jolly face was stern.

What was going on?

“I’ll have to call you back,” I said into my phone.

Laverne nodded in the direction of the counter. “I believe this belongs to you.”

I followed her eyes and boom! there they were … a familiar pair of squinted eyes twinkling back at me.

Without thinking I spoke into my phone. “You didn’t…”

He smiled across at me as he spoke into his phone. “Yep. I did.”

I dropped my phone into the pocket of my apron.

“I’m sorry Laverne,” I said to my boss. Yet I couldn’t help but smile. Even though Jax’s arrival had turned Laverne’s shop into a maelstrom of oestrogen, it was nice seeing him standing in front of me. But it was getting crazy around us. Girls clamoured to get close to him. They were loud and disruptive and much to Laverne’s irritation, weren’t buying a damn thing.

Jax, of course, seemed oblivious to the tornado of female adoration around him and grinned.

Laverne’s expression softened. “Maybe you two can take this out the back.”

She lifted the counter top to let Jax through. “Not you, Lady Gaga,” she said, pushing back an overzealous fan and closing the countertop. “And any of you who aren’t here for ice-cream can bugger off.” Laverne was Australian and didn’t mince her words.

I took Jax out the back to the storeroom. My heart danced around my chest at the sight of him standing amongst the boxes of serviettes and paper cups. In the fluorescent light he looked young. Hardly like a rock star at all. He wore a T-shirt layered over a long-sleeved tee and a pair of black jeans.

“Sorry,” he said, that irresistible half-smile in place.

“You sure know how to make an entrance.”

“I was aiming to impress you.”

“Do you usually walk around with your own cloud of screaming fans?” I asked.

“Only when I’m trying to get a girl to go out with me.”

“Most guys would use flowers. Or a puppy.”

“I’m really not like most guys.”

I nodded and couldn’t help but smile at him. “Boy, that is true.”

“So will you?”

“Will I what?”

“Go out with me? You never answered me when I asked you before.” His eyes twinkled and his brow creased up. “Or do I have to keep coming back here with my fan club until it just wears you down and you give in.”

“Something tells me you’re not joking.”

He had a wicked glint in his eyes. “Like I said, I can be very tenacious.

I folded my arms. “I bet you were a handful as a child.”

“Like you wouldn’t believe. It drove my mom crazy.”

“Now that I can believe.” I smiled.

Looking across at him I had a distinct feeling that I could fall for this shy guy. And I mean, plummet to earth like a meteor shower. So I either put a stop to it now. Or I stopped fighting the current and just went with it.

My inner good girl deserted me. I had no desire to stop this. Even if I recognized red flags at every possible turn. I grinned, which he matched with his cute lopsided smile.

“What time?” I asked.

“What time what?”

“Are you picking me up?”

He grinned. “What time do you finish?”

I looked surprised. “In a couple of hours.”

“Then I’ll be here in a couple of hours.”

“I need to go home and change. I can’t go out looking like this.”

“I don’t know, I’m kind of digging that pink uniform-thing you’re wearing. You didn’t tell me it was so –”

“Granny-ish?”

“Pink.” He grinned.

“Plus, I need a shower. I didn’t go home last night, remember.”

“That’s because you were too busy sleeping on my lap.”

I blushed, remembering how I woke up face to face with his crotch.

“How about you give me your address and I’ll pick you up at five o’clock?” he suggested.

I wrinkled my nose. “I don’t know, look what happened when you knew where I worked. What’s going to happen if you know where I live?”

“Are you always this difficult?” he asked.

“I like to call it selective…”

“Is that right?”

“I don’t give my address out to just anybody.”

“I’m a famous rock star, you know.”

“No!” I said with mock surprise.

He nodded. “Really! But if you need more proof, I have a few people out there who I’m sure will vouch for me. Should I call them in here?”

I laughed. “Don’t you dare!”

He opened the door to the storeroom like he was going to call out to the crowd still in the café. “Are you sure? Because I’m sure they’ll support my credentials.”

“Okay…you win. I’ll give you my address.”

He grinned and using a sharpie I kept in my apron, I wrote my address on a serviette. He tucked it into his jeans pocket. “I’d better get Gambit’s bike back before he starts crying.”

“He’s a crier?”

“A fucking baby.”

“You know, I suspected that.”

We shared a mutual smile, our eyes sparkling across at one another.

“Five o’clock?”

I nodded. “Five o’clock.”

He paused to look at me a moment longer. “I’ll sneak out the back.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to take your friends with you?”

“Probably best if I sneak out.”

“Are you sure? Because I can always get them for you…it’s no problem, really…”

To shut me up he pulled me to him and pressed his lips to my forehead. A totally shifty move because it caught me off guard. Being so close to him and feeling that body up against me sent electrical charges throughout every nerve and fibre. Not to mention those lips against my skin. The sensation sucked the oxygen from my lungs.

“I’ll see you in a few hours.” His voice was thick.

It was all I could do to nod.

And then he was gone.

BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS – Coming Soon! Watch this space …

Update From The Desk – New Book Due Out and More

Hi all!

Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet on social media etc for the last month, but I promise you I have a very good reason. See in the last few weeks I’ve been totally consumed by writing my upcoming book BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS.

Firstly, BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS is coming along nicely. In fact, it’s almost done. I have been so absorbed by it that it has taken up all of my spare time. I’m not kidding. When I say all, I mean ALL. We recently went on a weekend trip away and my laptop came with us. Without a word of a lie. And I was up every morning at 5am to punch out 1,000+ words before breakfast.  And if I can be honest with you – and at the risk of sounding like a right loon – I actually missed my characters when I was away from them. I missed getting to know them. Missed seeing what they got up to. Missed their company.

I know. Weirdo.

The truth is though, I’m never really away from them because they are always there, in my head, ready to throw some random scene or conversation at me at any given minute. The trick is to be prepared. I am armed with my trusty notepad and pen at all times. Except when I am out jogging or in the shower. Which ironically, is when the images/scenes/ideas/conversations come to me the most. Go figure. The two times I’m without a pen and I am at my most creative. I assume God is laughing me.

As you can imagine it’s a race to get the ideas down on paper before they slip into the unknown. As soon as I get my frantic little hands on a pen and paper, its a rush to get the thoughts down and my usually neat handwriting goes from this:

IMG_3784

To this:

IMG_3783

Yes, desperation gives me serial killer handwriting.

Secondly, I hope to have a cover reveal for BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS sometime in the coming week. It is currently in the creatively-talented hands of Liam at Hued Designs, who also did the cover for Crazy Beautiful. Although, this one has a very different feel to it. I’ve seen the proof and holy hell, it’s HOT!  I can’t wait to see the final version and share it with you guys! I also plan to put up the blurb … once I actually get it to a point where I can stand it and not be so frustrated I want to hurl my laptop across the room. At the moment, it’s just not happening. It’s almost there, but not quite. It needs a fair bit of tweaking. And probably vodka.

Thirdly, I need to address the fact that even though BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS is my second book and has the word beautiful in the title, it has NOTHING to do with Crazy Beautiful or The Crazy Series. It is a standalone novel. With completely different characters. I was in two minds as to keeping the title and actually considered others. But BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS was the name the Universe handed me when it gave me the idea, and I don’t mess with the Universe. It’s bigger than me. And a fair bit smarter. So BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS it is!

The second book of The Crazy Series is CRAZY WONDERFUL, but that isn’t due out until 2015. Once BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS is released and is gallivanting around on Amazon, my plan is to polish the novella I accidently wrote while I was supposed to be working on BEAUTIFUL DANGEROUS. It is called FLING and guys, it’s hot! Hopefully it will be ready by early 2015. But more on that later.

THEN after all of this (inhales deeply), I plan to hang out with Heath, Harlow and the rest of the Dillinger clan and Vengeance to finish CRAZY WONDERFUL. There is some seriously good stuff in the pipeline for those guys. Phew! I’m going to be busy! That’s a lot of 3.30am starts ahead for me. Thank God for caffeine and music! And the fact that I may actually be a little bit crazy …

Crazy Beautiful – Read An Excerpt

HEATH

It was guys versus girls. Nothing like a little friendly battle of the sexes. Losers would shout dinner.

Privately, Harlow and I had our own bet. If she scored more runs than me, I would cook her dinner. The works. Three courses. Apparently the girl liked food.

If I scored more runs than her, I would still cook her dinner. But she would have to spend the night with me.

Not in that way.

I wasn’t dumb enough to think I could bet my way into her libido.

But the idea of falling asleep with her in my bed … just having the warmth of her next to me, I’d be lying if I said I’d never thought about it. Fantasized about it. And not with my hand on it. I just wanted to feel her in my bed and wake up next to her.

Surprisingly, she had agreed to the bet. Which was exciting, because there was no way she was going to win. After all, I’d gone to college on a baseball scholarship.

“This is your last chance,” she whispered in my ear as we made our way towards the field.

“For what? For me to back out?” I scoffed. “Like I told you when I met you … I play hard.”

Harlow suddenly grabbed me by the crotch, surprising the hell out of me.

“Hmmm, that’s yet be seen.” Her eyes twinkled mischievously across at mine. She smiled and swung the bat over her shoulder as she walked off. “See you on the field.”

Fuck me. This was a side to her I’d never seen. Sassy. Assertive. Ballsy. If I wasn’t so turned on, I’d probably be worried about losing the bet.

She was just trying to put me off my game. Psyche me out. I wasn’t blind. But hey, if that involved her putting her hands on me—especially there—then that was just fine by me.

“I dunno dude, you got much riding on this game?” Armie asked. He was wearing a pair of ladies oversized sunglasses and a cigarette was hanging off his lip. Babe Ruth or Joe DiMaggio he wasn’t. “She looks like she knows her way around that bat.”

We both watched her walk over to the home plate.

“Yeah, well, she hasn’t had to face my fastball.” I said.

Armie didn’t look convinced and took his rock star butt over to right field. He threw a kiss to Kelsey on the batting bench, pitching it like a baseball and almost falling over in the process.

Harlow was first up to bat. She had pulled her long hair into a high ponytail and looked fucking amazing wearing one of my Dodger’s caps.

In high school and college I was pitcher. I would spend hours practicing and had pretty much perfected my fastball. It would be unkind to unload that on her, especially since she probably had no real idea how to play. The chances Harlow had played high school baseball were slim, and she had probably only handled a bat once or twice in her life.

Although, her stance over the home plate was pretty good.

“I promise I’ll be gentle,” I said to her.

She raised a perfectly arched eyebrow at me. “Don’t hold back on my account, Heath. Give me everything you’ve got.”

Damn. Did she have to say shit like that to me? My brain interpreted it in so many different ways and none of them had anything to do with baseball.

I thought for a moment then without hesitation pitched it to her with all I had.

To say Harlow knew how to play would be an understatement, and in the next few seconds she pretty much dashed my hopes for winning our bet. She swung that bat like Babe Ruth and smashed the ball right out to left field. I didn’t see where or who it went to because I was left standing there, mouth gaping, as I watched her take off to first base. Then second. Then third. When she slid into home, I was so turned on I just wanted to take her home and spend the rest of the afternoon learning what other talents she had.

Now I understood why she had agreed to our bet so easily.

She looked up and winked, and I came undone. This was love.

Next up, my sassy sister took to the plate. I knew she could play. She had grown up with three Dillinger brothers, so she knew her way around a baseball bat.

Like me she was left handed, and she smashed the ball out to right field where Armie was running around in circles with his arms skyward, trying to gauge where the ball was going to drop. It was a wonder he could see anything with those big Jackie O sunglasses on. Needless to say the ball slipped through his usually talented fingers and he fell on his ass.

Nikki took her sweet time, strutting to first base.

Kelsey was up next. She was still wearing her cowboy boots and short denim skirt and her blonde hair was pulled into plaits. If it wasn’t for the full-sleeve tattoo on her left arm, she’d look fresh out a North Dakota tourism catalogue.

She swung at the first two pitches, then hit a foul on the third.

Piper didn’t fare much better despite Jesse’s cries of support from left field. “Come on baby … you can do it … kick our ass!”

I swung around to look at him, my arms raised in a what-the-hell kind of fashion. The dude was so whipped. He looked at me and shrugged.

When Piper missed the second pitch, Jesse complained that I was pitching them too hard and too fast.

“Don’t worry baby, it’s just the way I like it.” She winked at her boyfriend.

I rolled my eyes and threw her an easy third, which she belted straight down the line and into my hands.

Pissed at me, she flicked me her middle finger as she walked back to the bench.

Harlow reappeared at the plate, looking smug and so damn sexy. The way her palm slid up the handle and her fingers curled around the shaft of the bat sent carnal pleasure tearing through me. I shivered. Damn it. I had to focus and take her out. I didn’t want her winning the bet.

She leaned into her batter’s stance. My eyes rolled over her perfectly round ass and long legs that went on forever in those jeans and I felt an appreciation for them everywhere in my body. She fixed me with those bright glittering eyes, with a small curl on her full lips and I was more determined than ever to win our bet.

But she had different ideas. And unfortunately, she had the ability to back it up.

She hit a homer skyward sending her and Nikki over the home plate.

If I wasn’t so turned on, I would have felt a little incompetent as a pitcher. But damn, this girl was good.

She was damn good.

That was two home runs.

Piper stepped up to the plate, determined to be a part of the play. I admit, I went easy on her because we go way back and I’ve always adored her like a sister. Even if she did scare me sometimes. But hell, I wanted her find her way around the field. Let one of the fielders be the bad guy and get her out.

She missed the first ball but hit the second, sending it trundling along the ground towards left field. She squealed, genuinely surprised by her achievement, and bolted towards first base.

When Kelsey sent one straight into Leigh’s waiting hands, the girls were out.

Harlow strolled over to me.

“Well aren’t you full of surprises,” I said.

She winked and took the ball from me. “You think I’m good with a bat, wait ’til you see my ball work.”

Okay, now she was just teasing. She was trying to psyche me out again. I got it. But damn … tell that to my dick.

“Don’t hold back,” I said.

“Don’t worry Heath, I’m going to give you everything I’ve got.”

Fuck. Me.

I had to win this bet.

The sooner she was in my bed, the better.
